US M1892 Krag Jorgensen Bayonet, Dated 1898
Description
Straight single-fullered knife blade, steel cross hilt with muzzle ring, wood slab grips secured by two rivets with washers, steel beaked pommel with locking button. Steel scabbard with swivelling steel belt attachment and wire belt clip.
The blade is stamped at the ricasso on one side with ‘US’ and on the other side with ‘1898’.
The US M1892 bayonet was introduced for the Krag–Jørgensen rifle, the first repeating American service rifle, and produced from 1894-1903. The bayonet was a direct copy of the Swiss M1889 bayonet for the Schmidt-Rubin.
A few spots of patination to the blade, no edge damage. The hilt and pommel are bright. The wood grips have some denting and a few stains. The scabbard is free of dents and retains its original blued finish with rubbing wear to the sides, chape and mouthpiece. The belt attachment moves freely.
