Italian M1891 Carcano Bayonet
Straight single-fullered blade Straight steel hilt with muzzle ring and rounded finial, steel pommel, wood scale grips attached with rivets. Black leather scabbard with brass fittings at throat and chape, brass frog hook attached by a screw.
This model fits the 6.5mm M1891 Mannlicher-Carcano rifle used in WW1 and WW2, the M1891/24 conversions used in WW2, and some late production versions of the M1891 TS carbine.
Hilt is stamped with serial number ‘B6339’ and ‘PS’ within a cartouche. The PS mark indicates one of many unknown private suppliers of components during WW2, when this bayonet was produced in large quantities. There is another oval mark, but it is illegible.
Blade is clean, bright and service sharpened with no edge damage. Some wear to the bluing on raised areas of the hilt and pommel, which had allowed superficial rusting in a few patches. A few bumps to the black leather consistent with handling.
